Welcome to West Lynde Public School's Website!
We are a learning community dedicated to helping children achieve their full potential academically, physically, and socially in a safe and caring environment. Our staff foster student learning in the classroom and through various extra-curricular activities. We have a strong and supportive School Community Council and parent community. Safe Arrival
Student Sign In / Sign Out
Whenever a student arrives late for school he/she must come to the office and sign in! All students who are leaving early for any reason are requested to come to the office to have a parent sign them out. We cannot allow students to walk home during the instructional day. This will ensure that students are leaving with the appropriate people at the appropriate time.
Make Your First Stop the Office
To ensure our students' safety and security while at school, we request that all visitors enter by the front door and make the office their first stop upon arrival. After checking in, please see Mrs. Simon and complete the Visitor Sign-in Book and wear a visitor or volunteer tag. If you need to pick up your child or deliver something, come to the office and we will be happy to assist you.
Clear Hallways – Meet Outside!
Thank you for setting up a meeting place outside the school rather than waiting for your child indoors. The space you create makes movement in our halls easier and safer. It teaches our children to be independent as they use the appropriate doors to enter and exit the school. Having a child run to your car in a parking lot of moving vehicles is dangerous. If you are late to pick up your child, please instruct them to report to the office and we'll have them await your arrival inside the front doors.
Parking Lot Safety
We would like to thank all the adults in our school community who take our students' safety seriously. The rules we have set up for our Kiss 'N Ride pick up and drop off are carefully designed to ensure that all our students can enter and exit our school safely. One of the most important rules is that no one is allowed to walk through the parking lot at any time or for any reason. If you walk with your child through the parking lot it sends a confusing message to students who have been told that the parking lot is off limits and it is dangerous for everyone.
Please take the extra minute to walk around the parking lot using the sidewalks that are designed for everyone's safety. The key is safety over convenience.
Kiss and Ride Needs Help to Continue
We hope to continue our Kiss and Ride program again this year. With your cooperation and assistance we will work to keep our students safe when arriving at and leaving from school. BUT, we are in need of volunteers to assist during the morning (from 8:45 – 9:00 a.m.) and during the afternoon (from 3:30 - 3:45 p.m.). Without sufficient volunteers we will not be able to run this program. If you are interested, and can spare one or two days a week to assist us, please call the office for further information.
Yellow Jackets - Buzzzzzzzzz
Teachers have been instructed to allow students to eat their snacks inside. No food or drinks will be allowed outside.
Lunchroom Facilities
Research has clearly shown that it is healthier for students to go home for lunch, if at all possible. Children who stay at school for lunch are expected to behave in a courteous, respectful manner toward staff, lunchroom supervisors and one another. Students who stay at school for lunch are not permitted to leave school property unless they have written permission from parents/guardians.
Daily written permission is needed every time a student will be leaving school property. Students must give the written permission to Mrs. Percy or Mrs. Simon in the office and sign out before they leave the school and they must sign back in upon their return.
Our School is a Nut Alert School
In our school we have a number of students who are extremely sensitive to peanuts, nuts or their by-products. The resultant anaphylactic reaction can be so severe it can cause death. As a school, we will make every effort to NOT have peanuts, nuts, or foodstuffs with nut by-products in our school at all. We thank you for your cooperation in making sure that your child does not bring snacks or a lunch that could put another child's life at risk.
Milk at Lunch - Build Bones
At the beginning of the lunch hour we will be selling milk (white and chocolate). Students are welcome to purchase these refreshments at the office to drink with their lunches. We will be selling these refreshments for $0.75 each.
For Students Requiring Medication at School:
If your child needs to have medication (Epi-pens, inhalers or oral medication) administered at school, it is critical that you complete a form, and have it signed by your child's physician to allow us to administer the medication. The paperwork is available through the office, simply by asking Mrs. Simon, our school secretary.
Custody Orders
Please ensure that the necessary Custodial Orders are provided to the school office, otherwise we will assume joint parental custody.
No Dogs, Please
A dog is a person's best friend; however, we would like to remind you that dogs are not allowed on school property. A number of children are uncomfortable with dogs and not all dogs are as well behaved as yours.
Indoor Shoes
All students are reminded of the need to reserve one pair of shoes with non-marking soles for indoor use only. These are necessary for participation in indoor gym classes and assemblies as well as for maintaining a level of cleanliness and safety within the hallways and classrooms.
Both of our trustees, Christine Winters and Kim Zeppieri, are hosting a debate on September 20 th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Henry Street High School (cafeteria). Come out and receive the answers you need about the future of education in the Province of Ontario.
